Adventures with Charlie cat

Mostly I've been stressing about my cat Charlie.  He's been home a week now since his operation and stay at the pet hospital.  I barely see him, though, he's hiding, because he knows I need to give him medicine.  It must be very bitter because most of it ends up on the walls or on me instead of in his mouth.

This morning I took him back to the vet to get his stitches out.  Good news, he gained a half pound.  Bad news - his tumor was malignant and he has 6 months to 1.5 years left.  The vet told me of a specialist in pet chemotherapy which may extend Charlie's life.  She said the cat wouldn't suffer. I asked if she felt it was worth it.  She said she couldn't really advise me.

So I guess I'm going to go check out the chemo vet next...

My Cat Charlie

I've been an infrequent blogger for the past month and a half - here is why:

For the last month or so, my cat Charlie has been losing weight.  He went from 20 pounds to 7.  So I took him to the vet.  Several, in fact.  The first vet took x-rays and did bloodwork and said he had some kind of cancer of the stomach or intestines.  He said there was nothing that could be done.

I took Charlie home and was depressed for a day.  And then I decided I was going to fight this.  So I've been force feeding Charlie some nutritional supplement gel and giving him vitamins.  I also did some research online and found a vet with great reviews.  She specializes in cats.  So I loaded up the cat carrier and took Charlie to see her.  It took some doing - she's very busy.  But she operated on Charlie.  He had a tumor in his colon, not the stomach or intestines.

Today I brought him home from surgery.  The above is Charlie showing of his stitches.  He's still really skinny but he seems active and he's eating! yay!

He's got a weird bald spot on his tummy where they shaved him and you can see his stitches, but Charlie was never the prettiest cat to begin with.  I'm just happy he is home and that he has a second chance.

The Raven Boys Trailer

Yes Maggie Stiefvater is at it again.  She drew, animated, wrote the music for, made this thing herself.

She's got a contest to giveaway advanced copies to people who blog/tweet/facebook about it.  I very rarely enter these types of things because I NEVER WIN.  But I liked the trailer and I haven't blogged in a bit   So I'm killing two birds with one stone.  Enjoy!
