Book Review - Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Description From        Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Have you noticed the trend towards re-telling of fairytales?  "Once Upon A Time" on ABC is one of my favorite new shows on TV and "Grimm" on NBC is pretty good too.
So here is a new "Cinderella" tale.  The author, Marissa Meyer says she was inspired by the TV series "Firefly" (Nathan Fillon, browncoats?).  Hello? Own the series on DVD so I had to get this book.  And I LOVED IT! Well, except for the ending...
There is just enough of the Cinderella tale that you'll recognize certain things but it is totally fresh, new, futuristic take on the story.  The writing is good.  Not once did I want to skip ahead or put the book down.  It builds and builds to a climax.   You kind of know where the story is going in general terms but not specifics and this story was full of surprises.
The only issue I had was the ending.  Because I didn't know it was a four part series.  So the ending was one of those "To Be Continued" type endings which, by now, you know I can't stand.
My rating: 5 stars - Go read this book!
