Fairview Part Two

Started Book Two of my Fairview series today.  It felt strange, but good to get away from Mels and all her drama.

In class I learned about how publishers sometimes only read the first line of a manuscript before deciding whether to toss or keep reading.  So if you can imagine, I wrote and rewrote the first sentence all day.

This is what I got:

"Tall caramel macchiato for Matahar-- JANE!"  The barrista shouted.

What do you think?  Would you keep reading?

Million dollar club

A while back, I was at a friend's house and I noticed she had a check framed in her office.  I looked at it and it was a fake one, made out to herself for a million dollars.

Then I went to my sister's and she had the same thing - a check framed for a million dollars.

What is with this?  I thought to myself, and that was kind of the end of it.

Then last week, I was reading the blog of an author I admired and she talked about her "Vision Board" on which she had -- you guessed it -- a check made out to herself for a million dollars.
It comes from that book "The Secret" where you 'manifest' things you want to happen.
Apparently (according to the blogger and admired author) it worked for Oprah, and Ellen, and also her.

So I decided to try it.  I now have a vision board.  It used to have photos of Barry Manilow and Twilight.  Now there is a check made out to myself for a million dollars (just so I could be part of this club).  And some other things which I'm kinda embarassed about so I'll just let you know when/if they come true.

So the other day I got an e-mail letting me know that my local Borders, Books, and Music was closing due to the Bankruptcy.  They were having a closing sale.  This is the ad I got.

So I went today, as I had a few books I wanted to pick up.

Well, I got there and there were big signs saying "10-30% off everything".  So I was mad off the bat, since my e-mail (see left) had higher percents off.  Isn't this false advertising?  Isn't this called 'bait and switch'?

Well, I was there already so I looked around.  The place was a dump.  Like, they already let all the clerks go, because nobody was re-shelving.  I couldn't find any of the books I wanted in the sections they were supposed to be in.  I checked near the cashiers area and sure enough, two of the books on my list were there.  Ha!

But I couldn't figure out how much they were discounted without trudging back to the area they were supposed to be in so I could see the signs that were posted to let me know how much they were discounted.

When I figured it out, buying on kindle was still cheaper than the discounted borders price.  No wonder they're bankrupt.

Plus too, the lines were like an hour wait to buy stuff.  A few people just went out the door with their books.  The alarm rang, but there weren't enough staff to go chasing after them.  No wonder they're bankrupt.

I remember going there a few times during the holiday season and being accosted by the salesperson in a cheap suit selling their e-reader.  They were dressed like thoreminded me of those Jehovah's witnesses selling their Bibles door-to-door.  Their e-readers were over $200.  Again, no wonder they're bankrupt.

I went home, no books because they were overpriced, understaffed, and I didn't feel like standing in line for an hour to save a dollar.

I'm supporting my local independent bookseller - and hope you will too.

So long as I'm talking about people I love, I figured I'd throw this in as a bonus.  Love the historical look our RPatz is sporting in this new movie - "Bel Ami"

I love Fabio

I love Fabio.

Not this Fabio.  This Fabio does the "I can't believe it's not butter" ads and graces the cover of Romance novels.

No, the Fabio I love is the one on Top Chef

This one.  The one that got kicked off Top Chef tonight.  Love his 'so-thick-it-sounds-fake' Italian accent.  Love/loved his commentary throughout.  The show is kinda boring without him.

I guess he loves us back. click below.  Love how he says "Twitter".  lol  Enjoy!

Casting for MY movie

So enough with casting other folk's novels.  Might as well cast my own!
Here is my dream cast.

Described as tall with dark hair and blue-grey eyes.
Steven R McQueen (Jeremy from Vampire Diaries)
He plays a junior or sophomore in high school when he's actually 23!

Mel, the main character.  Has a crush on Spence (see above)
Molly Quinn. She plays the daughter of Castle on the TV show of the same name.

Ashley Greene from Twilight (Alice).
Spence's sister.  They look like they could be related right?

Kyle (Gina's boyfriend)
Alex Pettyfer
